Larkins Bar

This unique traditional family run Bar & Restaurant is situated in Garrykennedy, on the south shore of Lough Derg on the River Shannon. Beside Ireland’s pleasure lake with breathtaking views, Larkins offers high standards of service with a personal touch. Charmingly situated on the picturesque shores of Lough Derg at Garrykennedy, Portroe, the Georgina Campbell recognised Larkin’s Bar and Restaurant is without doubt one of the finest dining locations in Tipperary. A hallmark traditional Irish bar and restaurant for many years now, Larkin’s reopened under the new management of Maura and Cormac Boyle and family in March 2006. Maura studied Hotel and Catering Management in Cathal Brugha Street in Dublin for three years and has 20 years’ experience in that area. “It’s good to be doing it for myself after all those years”, she says one year on from setting up at Larkin’s. Cormac comes from a financial background and has proved a huge support in that area from the beginning of the project. Their four children, Cillian, Cathal, Muireann and Diarmuid all help in the running of the business, particularly during the summer months when it’s all hands on deck and no excuses taken! Together with a mainly local staff. The Boyles have been living in Garrykennedy for the last 16 years and, with Maura and Cormac both coming from farming backgrounds, they feel very strongly about using as much Irish sourced produce as possible, including meat, chicken and eggs sourced from Quality Assurance Schemes. Larkin’s has received the Féile Bia Seal of Approval for serving quality Irish food, and the restaurant was recently recommended by the prestigious Georgina Campbell Guide for fine dining in Ireland.
